went to check out this 92 ws6... tips please..

well i really really like this car and its a good deal compared to all the other cars iv looked at and i really want to get it. its a black 92 ws6 5.7L. out side is almost perf but on the front bumper the paint is chipping and you can see red under it, he told me he got the car in black 4 years ago. its abou the size of a dime. its a hard top and it has no leaks, the inside is in good (no rips) but the thing in the middle that holds the power window switches fell in but it still works. when i checked the overflow coolnt thing it was not up to the full level.... i looked down it and it had just enuf to fill up the very bottom of it...he told me nothing was leaking..?.. one more thing was the breaks, it felt like it was hard to break and took a little while to break most when im going slow and commin to a stop. what do you guys think about all this??? he is asking 5500 but im not going to pay more than 5. oh yeah and the hatch push up things dont work... should i take the wheels off the car to check the breaks to see if its just the pads or something??Please help!!!any info would be great!!! oh yeah and the idle psi was around 40 or 50 or something...thanks alot!!!!........ can anyone do a car fax for me???thanks...

You could check the brake fluid level, or check to see if there is any air in the lines if your serious, but of course you can check the pad level without the tires off, except for the rear drum of course, if it has drums in rear. But one thing I have found out to ALWAYS check, is when you turn the car on, check to see if a check engine light comes on. If it doesnt he pulled it, and it is probably throwing codes. Do not buy a car that doesnt have a check engine light, even if you want it really bad. I have learned this from experience. It will come back to bite you in the *** majorly!!!

Check the engine code to make sure it is a 350. If it has drums brakes on the rear it is almost certainly a 305 (and have the **** gears, cam and converters). I also noticed that cars with drums don't brake well.

The low coolant level is most likely an intake manifold gasket leak. I've had numerous TPI's and they all leaked (more than once to boot).

Make sure the tranny is good - it should shift hard.

Final note.

Bad hood and trunk struts are typical - just buy new ones.

While intake manifold leaks are common - they are not good. If the car has a gasket leak or if the manifold is porous it will need to be fixed at some point.

Take the effort to check if the car has rear discs. Look carefully through the wheel to see if you see the shiny rotor - you can't miss it. If it has discs and the brakes feel bad probably the pads and/or rotors or master cylinder are shot - not that cheap to replace.

One final thing I do before buying a car is to look carefully underneath it. You will be surprised what you can find - frame damage, weld marks, different paint color, broken suspension.

By the way what model is it - WS6 relates to the suspension package - could be a TA, GTA or Formula model.

i have a 91 ws6 350 w/ 4 wheel discs. depending on what you are used to driving the brakes may be normal. for instance, i know that a mustangs breaks are very sensitive and grab hard, if i were used to driving that and got in my car i would feel that i have to push the pedal to hard and that it doesnt seem like it wants to stop. i say that next time you drive it, simply tell the guy that you dont think the breaks feel right, and slam on the brakes and see how it does.
