Cam install.Gone wrong?
Cam install.Gone wrong?
I install a comp cams 270h cam in my truck today.
I have the motor at TDC on the intake stroke. The dots on the timing gears are lines up.The thing is the 1st lifter on the driver side.Is up a little bit.Just a tiny bit.
Is something wrong.I thought that both lifter's should be all the way down.
Any thoughts?

If one of the lifters is up when the timing marks are lined up, it normally means that #6 is at TDC, and you need to turn the crank one full revolution to get #1 to TDC.
I think.
I think.
Well that makes since. When I installed the cam both where down. Then I rotated to make sure everything was alright. And my mom started screaming at me for taking my truck apart again.(I have a tendancy to do that)So I quit paying attention.
Now I am waiting for my intake and carb.Hopefully those little 4 cylinders wont be a problem!

Your fine, and installed the chain correctly. The instructions have you line it up dot to dot, cause it's easier.
Like 'si_camaro' said your crank & cam are at #6 TDC. Something the instruction fail to mension some times.
Techniclly both dots are at the 12 O'clock postion to be at #1 TDC.
BTW: I also install my chain dot to dot. It's easier & you don't need a straight edge.

Well that is good news.
I just looked up the casting # from the heads. They got 1.72 and 1.50 exhaust valves.Casting # 3927185.Well dangit. Are 882's any better than this.My cousin has some that I might be able to get ahold of.
I am still hoping for good results.Cam,intake, carb swap all at once.next on the list is headers. Then I guess heads.

882's have huge 76cc chambers but bigger valves, while the 185's have 70cc chambers and tiny valves. Your call they are both crap.
