Marlbles in a coffee can!!!!!

OK. when i start my car i hear what seems to be a knock. It actually sounds like a lifter is out and rattling/jumping around under there. It happens worse when I am under braking.. or making a left hand turn...theres a new flexplate/converter. Nothing is cracked or loose...it sounds like its coming right from where the camshaft is.......i'm not driving the car until i find out what it is... oil press is 40 warm...

i have a 72 350
.488 /.488 cam
2500 stall
holley 750 VS
Performer manifold
ported 305 heads,350 valves.

I'm actually starting to think it may be something wrong with the torque converter... I drove around days like this because I though it was the new fan hitting the fan shroud.........

Rob

Oh yeah... if in park you cant hear it... but as soon as you rev it up and get off the gas ....you can hear it...on de-acceleration... Cant hear it at all when your on the gas....

I had a similar noise in my 70 TA with a 350, it turned out to be the timming chain, it was so stretched that I'm supprised it didn't jump teeth. while under load the chain was taught and when getting off the gas the chain went slack and rattled like hell.

new timing chain... it actually sounds like there is a socket jumping around in the lifter valey or something....someone said that maybe my torque converter is bad....its worse when i turn left.....do you think that my oil pump pickup fell off....like when i go over small hills in a parking lot.. i can hear something jumping and jiggling around....hitting things in the motor....and when i brake......

so ..it sounds like when i make a sudden move...whatever it is ....hits against something in the motor.....believe me..i've had loose torque converter bolts....and a cracked flexplate.. sounds similar..but....it doesnt add up..

I would think that if the oil pump pickup fell off you would not have any oil pressure since the oil level isn't high enough in the pan to get to the intake port on the pump.

do you have headers on that thing, how about the cat is it new or old, I had an old cat on my car that the honey-comb was all broken up in the cat and just rattled around like a spray paint can,it didn't do it until I was getting off the gas either. or if you are still running the stock exhaust, check the exhaust restrictor (I think thats what its called) it is in the passenger side of the exhaust just under the manifold. if the linkage is loose or missing the butterfly valve will rattle around like that.
