Winage Tray for stroker
Winage Tray for stroker
I am building a 383, and would like to know if anyone has used a Milodon Diamond Stripper windage tray with a Scat crank? Summits catalog says that the tray will not fit 400's. Anyone know of a tray I could use?

The tray doesn't fit 400 blocks, because the main bolts/studs are farther apart than a 350 block. It has nothing to do with the 400 crank. I don't know for sure if that crank will fit with that tray, it probably will, I suspect the rods would be a factor as well. That would strictly be a matter for trial and success.

The Moroso tray would not clear my rods on my 400 with ARP studs. There may be longer studs that you can buy to get it to clear but I tossed the tray and stayed with the ARP studs.
That was with a Scat crank and 6" rods.

Hurtin, I have GM studs in my 400 with the Moroso tray (the flat louvered Teflon coated one), and that all fits comfortably. You might want to look into that combo next time around. The ARP studs are much shorter than the GM ones. I did have to slot the holes in the tray though, per my previous post.

Hey Huntin4HP, ARP sells a set of studs specially for the 400 and stroker application. You usually have to have a machine shop order them from ARP but, they do exist. BTW, I don't have a stroker YET but, I have the Moroso tray with longer studs in my 355. HTH's

So it sounds like I'll just have to test fit the stuff huh? I'll see about ordering longer studs from Summit, and the tray also. They'll take anything back as long as you don't destroy it! Thanks for the help guys.
I have a 383 with a Summit pro line 4340 crank, Milodon diamond stripper windage tray and ARP main studs. All fits fine. The stock Z28 windage tray comes nowhere close to fitting.

Just for info: I calles Milodon and talked with a tech. He told me that their tray will fit a 383 fine if you use their adjustable mounting bolt kit. I would rather buy the ARP bolts because they come as a complete set, not just the mounting bolts for the tray. Scat also claims that the tray will clear their crank, but did suggest turning the motor by hand to check for clearance. Thanks for the responses, and maybe this info will be some help for somebody.

One other minor problem you might run into with the longer studs is them hitting the oil pan. I did install some longer studs to test fit the tray and found that when I put the oil pan on the studs hit. I was able to "dimple" the oil pan so the two that were hitting would clear, then said the heck with it and took them back out.

But I have to ask if this it the one you guys are talking about.

The description says it doesn't fit strokers, but I find that a little odd. My block already has the longer studs, just not tray.
