Plug wires? (I read back for weeks)

I just bought an 88 RS 305TBI-AT. Last sunday I changed the oil, all eight plugs, the air filter and the PCV filter. A bad surging at 2500rpm(steady state) is now mostly gone. I look at the pukey plug wires on this car (some straight boots, some angled) in total disgust.
I need plug wires recommendation. I gotta
set a top $ limit of $50 on getting some wires that will good all the way to my goal of 260HP. What do you recommend.

MD,

Welcome aboard ThirdGen.org!

The spark plug wires installed on your engine may be an original set. GM mixed straight and angled plug boots where appropriate for best fit. I believe they still do that. A good set of wires should have relatively low resistance, high insulation resistance and heat resistance, brass terminations with steel assist springs, and silicone boots. Packard offers a good set that will fit your engine without modification (OEM wires). My factory wires are running a 350 to about 365 BHP without problems.

Later,
Vader

If you save a little more you could get Moroso blue max plugs for around $60. I have heard that they aren't too bad but I may be wrong. Or you can get MSD for about $60. I am not that great with prices though.

Original factory wires are suppression core (not spiral core) aren't they? If I were to buy a set of (replacement) wires from the dealer today, would they be spiral core? I have looked into GMPP wires (over $70) and they are spiral core.

A set of Accel Super Stock direct replacement style wires should run you no more than $50 at your local Advance Auto.

I have accel super stock universal cut-to-fit wires (headers..) with 90 degree boots, took a little time but looks good, they were 30 bucks.

Accel wires are good for the price, never had a problem with them, the morose blue max cracked in a matter of weeks on me, they also fit bad. They where a big improvement over the accel runnig wise. I am now running taylor sprial pro wires and I like the fit alot. Have not ran the car much so I don't know how they perform.

I use Taylor wires, within your budget and spiral core. They even seem to stand up to header heat quite well when routed properly.

Vader's right, most of these cars left the factory with 2 straight and 6 angled ends. All 90º will work fine though.
