How much does our undercarpet insulation wiegh?
Awhile back you gave me some help setting up my formerly 91 Z28 TPI as a Carbed monster=] Thanks It was reassuring to know it worked for someone else.
Anyway. Dont bother. Im in the process of completely overhauling the Z(from engine/trans/rear to the seating and guages) and its not worth it at ALL its very light. You will prolly not gain anything. Now if your welding in alot of race gear then go ahead and remove it but it will not help you in any way except having a loud uncomfortable camaro that rattles too much as it is. Maybe it will be worth .01 second but I doubt it.
Could be wrong though just my 2.

Yeah I just replaced my carpet a few weeks ago and the whole factory carpet wasnt even that heavy, with the insulation. Id say leave it in.

It's not significant unless you live in a coastal or very sandy region. I just recently pulled the 17 year old carpet out of my car and I'd bet it had 20 pounds of sand "worn" into it. However, I didn't remove the padding from the new carpet because by itself, it probobly didn't anount to **** by itself (without all the sand)...

I was going to say that the insulation doesnt weigh squat, its the carpet. And still not worth the hassle if your driving it everyday.

Guido's right.. for kicks, when I installed my new ACC carpet, I yanked off the underpadding from the old one, and held it in my hands.
I'd say it weighed "maybe" 8 pounds. Definately not worth all the trouble... skipping lunch would do the same thing.
Also the ACC carpet had less padding on it than the original GM stuff. GM padded under the back seats, and ACC didn't bother - nobody could feel it anyway!

The ACC carpet has thinner padding than stock, its a bit lighter.
