Yikes!! RPM's won't fall back down after lefting up on gas...
I just finished a intake swap and my carb was idling perfectly at 1000rpm....responded really well when I gave it gas, but just tonight when I gave it gas the rpm's wont fall back down?! It seems like the linkage is stuck, but that's not the case....what the heck is going on?
Thanks.

It's an edelbrock performer 600cfm with electric choke....I don't believe it's the carb though....I believe my distributor cap came loose and it's not aligned properly so I'm going to reposition the distributor tomorrow and try it again
what you are describing is consistent with the symptoms of a vacuum leak, check all your hoses and gaskets at all mating surfaces. It could also be a stuck throttle, try it again and manually apply some pressure to the throttle arm to close it see if theres any difference. The timing/distributor would not cause a problem of this type
well pablo....my distributor was plugged at first so I could time it properly but when I hooked it up to the carb this happened so I plugged it back up but still did the same thing so I don't think the vacumm's the culprit
uh, there are other places vacuum can leak other than the vacuum advance hose
btw, you dont plug the dist, you plug the vacuum line from the carb that goes to the distributor
from what I understand you shouldnt HAVE to do that being that the vacuum line for vacuum advance from your carb should be on a timed vacuum port that sees no vacuum at Idle
im not quite sure what you are trying to say though

ok i think i understand what you are trying to say
you say when you set timing with the vacuum advance disconnected it did not do it
then you reconnected vacuum advance
and it started doing it
you then plugged the vacuum advance thinking that might have caused it yet it still did it
in my opinion it sounds like a vacuum leak. It only takes a couple revs to suck in a gasket or a brittle hose to become a problem
sounds to me like you revved it a few times and whatever was about to go gave regardless of what you did at the distributor
