Hmm emissions question
Ok, i cant figure this out, well i dont know which to try, i cant pass emissions for the life of me and yeahyeah i got no emissions on my car i know this i dont wanna hear that hehe. But ive got no cat either and i think my carb is just a hunk of crap and maybe its causing me a problem? i smell gas fumes horribly everytime i get on it and when im in back of the car just idling it is just strong. I need to pass emissions and i was wonder what would be the best help? should i get a cat installed? maybe buy and try a new carb? ingintion like msd maybe help or somethin? any help would be appreciated thanks.

Umm i think you know what your problem is. You need to put your emmisions stuff back on to pass. No vehicle, no matter how good it runs will pass the sniffer with no smog equipment. If you don't wanna do that then you won't pass unless you can pull a few strings

You can spend money from now till Doomsday on the "maybe it's this, maybe it's that" program, and still never get your car licensed.
I'd suggest a high-flow cat, and a smog pump from the junk yard. If all you have is a sniffer test (no visual), then those will easily make it pass. If you have a visual, then there's not much you can do except put it back like it belongs.
The cat and pump together will also cost about half as much as Step One of your proposed "maybe it's this" program, the carb.
And people wonder why I advise them not to just go ripping off their "emissions crap".... it's because I like to see them be able to actually drive their cars legally. That stuff causes very, very little performance degradation, and can save you a whole lot of trouble in the long run.

Either you were real lucky 2 years ago, or they've changed the standard since then.
Who knows, maybe you can get lucky again. Personally, I don't bet on "luck"; that's how casinos make money, is off of people who think that "luck" will make them money. Those "lucky" people "winning all that money" is what builds those huge buildings and pays for the cheap food and drinks.
How long do you want this to take? How many times do you want to keep re-trying? How long do you want to ride the bus to work because yrou car has no license plate?
Put a cat on it to start with; it's cheap, easy, has virtually zero impact on performance.
Good luck!!!

Man people are trying to help you out here. If you don't want the help then dont even ask. It's obvious what your problem is. You have no smog equipment!!!!!!!!!!! Why do you think it was put on? It does it's job of reducing pollution and when you remove it you aren't gonna pass. Like everyone else said, you can keep messing around, but until you put all your smog stuff back on, it will be a waste. Good luck trying to pass with no smog stuff on your car. You could just do the obvious and put all of your smog equipment back on, but hey that would be too easy right?

25, I think we are being duped. He's either an idiot, or simply a professional time waster. The boards are for real questions about Third Gen's, not nonsensical questions where the answer is obvious.
You could make your car run awfully rich to lower the hydrocarbons put out, but if you're also tested for oxides of nitrogen, the increased temperatures might hurt that.
You could make a small exhaust leak to dilute the exhaust enough to say emissions are low, but not low enough to make the system aware that you're diluting it.
You could run some alcohol in your car, or an emissions reducer.
You could pay someone off.
Still, I must wonder, why are you not running any emissions equipment? The air pump and the cat (which help the most, the cat helping a LOT) have such a little effect on performance it's just a waste of time to remove them. There really is no point in it at all. The easiest way to get your car to pass a sniffer would be to put a high-flowing cat on your car.

it is possible on some to pass a tailpipe emissions test without proper equipment on the car, but not with the parts you've selected and not without you knowing better how to tune it in to run cleaner. unless you buy your way out, it just isn't going to happen.

An "awfully" rich condition will not increase NOx OR decrease hydrocarbons........ Thread
