Firing order is conveniently cast into the intake manifold 18436572, clockwise around the cap

The car comes from the factory with #1 at the front of the cap, just to the driver's side of straight ahead. However when people take out their distributor and put it back in, many are less than meticulous about where they put it back, since it will work in any of 8 places (they just move the plug wires around to make up for their lack of rigor); so if yours has been moved, it's impossible for anybody to even guess which one might be #1.

Unless you put it on #6 firing instead of #1 firing.
