Probably a dumb question...but when I'm driving down the road and I punch the gas, I get black smoke out of the exhaust pipes and it feels like the car slows down instead of speeds up. Plus, if the windows are open, there is a heavy gas smell. V8 motor, with a holley 2 barrell carb. Only happens if the secondaries on the carb open up. Is there an easy way to fix without replacing the carb?

 

2 barrels don't have secondaries
probably need to rejet the secondaries i have never really dealt with holleys i like quadrajets just trying to get the ball rolling

 

Then the old owner lied to me saying it was a 2 barrell carb. Luckily he is married to one of my cousins so I won't hurt him too bad.

Thanks for the info. Think I'll try the rejetting and maybe adjust the fuel/air ratio.

 

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but why didn't you know it was a 2bbl before you bought the car? the difference in appearance between a 2bbl and a 4bbl is night and day.
