Why does my car overheat so much?

I finally fixed my Air conditioner, and now i cant even use it much becuase it makes my car overheat. I installed a heater control valve a while back, but that doesnt seem to help. I think maybe my thermostat is stuck shut, and i also think my fan clutch is worn out. What can I do to lower my cars temp?

replace your t-stat and fan clutch and see where that gets you.

I once had a car that I bought new, and I took good care of. The radiator pluged up for no reason that I could see, but it fooled me for a long time. I would take the cap off and look in and see coolant flow in the top levels but I finally put my hand down lower on the core and it wasn't nearly as hot as it was on top. No flow down low. New radiator problem gone.

definately check that your airdam is intact and sturdy, thats the peice that hangs down from the radiator and seems to scrape on alot of things (provided you have it)

When does the car overheat? City or Highway driving?
Do as Pablo says and recheck you timing with can cause overheating if out.
Check for anything blocking the radiator such as leaves or paper.
If the stat is closed, you think, then start the car remove the radiator cap and see if the fliud in the radiator is moving. If it is then the pump is good and if the fliud in the radiator gets hot the stat is good.
The radiator cap could be bad, this happen to me, and city driving I use to over heat and highway I was fine.
Hopefully this might help, I hope.
Good Luck!

well, for one he has a engine driven fan, so a fan switch isnt gonna help. definately replace your fan switch. especially if the problem is downtown low speed driving. onthe other hand, if you are having trouble with highspeed cooling also, check your air dam and replace it if it needs it, 15-20 bucks i think from gm. also i would suggest replacing your thermo also if u havent done it rescently... throw a 185 or 180 in it, you wiull be much happier with the cooling!
