another engine missing question

hi,

sorry if this is a repost, my comp froze when i clicked submit last time, and my post didn't show up...anyways, here goes...

My T/A has been misfiring ever since i bought it about a month ago. It starts up fine (first start of the day) but after a couple hours of driving around it starts to sputter throughout the RPM range (sometimes briefly, and sometimes for the rest of the day). It also Idles very rough after it starts missing. The sputtering starts regardless of water temp or fuel tank level (read the fuel pump posts). So far i have tried setting the timing to the factory spec (6b), new cap and rotor, new coil, plugs (+4's) and wires (accel race wires), and a new fuel filter. The injectors all measure up at 16.8 ohms. The MAF sensor is also fine. I have checked for vaccume leaks but can't find any. Im new to this stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated. This car is starting to drive me crazy.. thanks, nick

you might try checking your fuel pressure,wireing,O2 sensor, check to see if your burning plug wires to they could be breaking down from heat if there sitting on or to close to the manifolds or headers whichever your running......but im no longer a tpi guy so ive gottin rusty

If you have access to the HELMS GM service manual , test the pickup coil in the distributor. While you're in the distributor, replace the ignition module if it looks like it's been there awhile. Even if that's not it, now you'll have a spare, and trust me, eventually you'll be glad you have it

Distributor problems tend to have issue only after being driven a bit...they warm up and then fail.
