well here are you choices, the above mentioned screw driver method, buy an ac machine and purge it, or tow it to a shop that has an ac machine and have them purge it.

I agree the hard part is its dead because alot of small shops that do a/c will take the freon and not charge you being r12 cost so much its worth it to them to take it

If you're going to swap in a 3.4 or 3.1 to take the 2.8's place, you can remove the entire a/c system without cracking open any fittings or losing any freon. I posted how a few days ago on the v6 forum (and a few times on this main tech forum too!) if you do a search for "remove condensor accumulator" by TomP...

It probably is. The box on the firewall (heater/evaporator box) is the same box. If there's nothing blocking the hoses from getting lifted up, you're good. The compressor is on the passenger side, right? On the v6's, it's on the driver's side.

Nope, driver side. I think later v8s had them on the pass side, but not in 87'. That would be nice. I'd perfer not to purge the system into the atmosphere and have to recharge it. .
Thanks

HEY! If you do not want the A/C compressor let me KNOW!
I just blew apart my old one and if I can get a known good one cheap Im all for it!
Let me know if you manage to depressurize the system and get it removed!

Tom, could you circle or indicate which items need to be removed. Here's what I have so far... The condensor in front of the radiator, the compressor on the driverside pulley, the silver cylinder on the pass side, the plastic box behind it, the box to the left of it that has a "warning refridgerant under pressure" sticker, and all associated hoses. Anything else, or anything i mentioned that i don't need to remove? How do i remove the stuff from the firewall?
Thanks
JP
