ok i've tried bog warner (pep boys) and niehoff (autozone) and i cant get either one to screw in. they both look exactly the same. the difference thought between them and my existing one is that my current one is tapered at the very end. I'm guessing this is why I cant screw it in? Anyone have any advice? B4 I pay out the a$$ for the dealer one? Which Im not even sure will work either?

Should be 1/8 inch NPT fittings. I am running an assortment of elbows from the Home Depot with no probs.

 

yep 1/8 npt, the taper should help since the end of the sender threads would be a bit smaller than the holes it's going in.

 

i'm a bit confused. youre telling me that the hole is 1/8 NPT, but the replacement senders i'm trying are not?

and i can get "adapters" from home depot?

 

It's all 1/8" NPT.... the hole in the block, the adapters, the replacement switches, GM ones, everything. They're all the same.

Sounds to me like you haven't quite got it lined up right or something.

 

hmmmm... the burn on my thumb would probably disagree... i guess i'll try again... seems like im the only one with the problem.

 

If your oil pressure sensor is right by the oil filter their are two holes right next to each other. You might be trying to screw it into the wrong one (the smaller one).

 

the sensor is on the back of the engine on the drivers side near the distributor. i can screw the original one in easy no problem, just not the replacement.

 

Are you trying to screw the sending unit into the block or into the elbows? If you replaced your sending unit you should have not had to mess with the crap that screws into the block.

 

forgive me because i am not very engine saavy... all i want to replace is the bell shaped pressure sender..

i just unscrewed it (i think from the block). i didnt remember seeing any elbows.

my pressure gauge would fluctuate for a while, then this weekend it went down into the red. i almost messed my pants but im pretty sure its just the sender. there was oil all over the connector like it was leaking out the wrong end.

 

Exactly. The pressure sending unit is the bell shaped thing that sits on top of the block at the back drivers side of the engine.

 

well i ponied up for the ACDelco one and it screwed in ok. dunno.

good news is the pressure is back up

about 35 warm idle and up to 60 on cold throttle.
