what do yall make of this tire?
what do yall make of this tire?
on my moms 1997 ford explore. she is about to be making a long trip (200+ miles on highway) and we want to make sure she is not going to have any tire trouble. we noticed this today. should we replace?

depends how deep it is.. that tire looks pretty dry rotted though.. should probably replace it anyway

This is one of those better safe than sorry scenarios. Tire does look a bit low on tread depth, as well as some dry rot, in a heavy vehicle with a high center of gravity its bordering on dangerous.

Hmmm. Ford Explorer - Tire coming apart. Are these Firestones too. LOL
HAHAHAHHAHA, I still remember that picture of the broken airline and its landing gear has firestone brand tires. Funny what a photo enhancing program can do.

What's the old saying? Better to replace something before it breaks, then when it breaks?
I'd get fitted for a used tire with at least 80% tread, or just buy a new one. Better than being stranded in a different state in the middle of nowhere. And as always, better safe than sorry
