I was wondering if anyone could let me know how to remove the MAF air screen, and do a throttlebody bypass. I was told to do both of these, and it would be an easy 15-20 hp gain. I was also wondering what affect, if any, doing these would have on emissions. Any explanations, opinions, or links will be appreciated!

You might see a few HP, nothing close to 15-20. Suggest you leave the screens in the MAF until you have enough motor to warrant the need for a few CFM.

Just make sure that if you are going to to the TB bypass to put it back to stock if your winters are cold.

You don't need to have coolant running through the TB at ANYTIME. There is NO POINT TO IT in the lower 48 states. And I've never had a problem with my bypass in 3 years.

LEAVE THE MAF SCREENS ON. Period.

I agree. I don't think it's going to get cold enough in Portland to worry about it.

Why leave the MAF screens on? I've heard many pro's about it, but no con's. Please explain the downfalls of removing the MAF screens. I'de like to know why some people say to do it, and others say not to, before making a decision.
BTW - thanks for helpin' me make my decision about throttlebody bypass.

yeah, in the PNW we don't need the coolant in the TB, it rarely even gets below freezing.

btw, where in portland are you????

Do a search on Maf Screens, many threads have been made about why you shouldn't do this. Many people say do it, but the fact of the matter is, You still get MORE than enough air coming through the maf, with the screens on. I however, removed my REAR maf screen because it served no purpose to me, however the front does.

It stops any large contaminates incase something came through when you had it disconnected from the filters, and somepeople say the Maf is programmed with the screens in mind.

Personally the MAF is a $300 part and I don't wanna mess with it.

Never have had a problem with no MAF screens on my MAF. Been running like this for almost a year now. Although I do have a reserve MAF sensor I picked up just in case something were to happen to the MAF on the car.
