question about oil pan

if you have a baffled oil pan would u need a windage tray???

Depends on the baffles.

Some baffled oil pans won't even fit with a windage tray. Others are designed for one.

If it's a regular stock pan, then I doubt a windage tray will fit.

They're not al the same you know. There's alot of variation in fact.

You still want some sort of baffling even with a windage tray. All that the tray does is to prevent the crank from whipping up the oil into a mist. You still need baffling to keep the oil from sloshing away from the oil pump.

judgeing by your sig it seems that your running a unmodded 305 so a normal pan should be just fine... windage tray may be good for a couple hp or so due to slightly less rotating mass by keeping a little oil off of the crank but nothing noticeable..

im buildin a 383 stroker with a tpi setup maybe i should add im buildin 1 in my sig

also i need a flywheel so i dont have to tear my 205 apart right now cause i want to get it balanced. Its a gen 1 roller crate motor with the 1 peice rear main seal. Can i just use ne fly wheel for a manual car 1 peice rear main seal 350 or 305 gen 1 block????

yup any flywheel from a 1 piece seal block should work fine.. now that i see your buildin n engine a windage tray can never hurt only help.. when i built mine i put one in.. i just wouldnt personally suggest tearing stuff apart to put one in.. as rb said all pans have somewhat of a baffle in them to keep oil in the sump.. you might as well go with a windage tray/crank scraper combo.. i got a moroso one from a local swap meet and it fit ok with my stock style pan.. if your gonna build it might as well go all out it isnt worth a big gain or nothin but every lil bit helps.. mine is simply a 355 though so i just used one for a 350.. since your building something with a longer then stock stroke make sure it will have clearance for the 400 crank and still fit.. also on a side note.. building a high proformance engine like a 383 and then putting something as anti proformance as tpi on it doesnt make sense.. i'd suggest carbing it or some sort of proformance fi system, basically ANYTHING but tpi as it will cost you some serious hp..

tpi isnt a low power setup i mean its not a super ram but it can flow ok for a 383. Ill prob get a super ram later. Is there a way i can measure this fly wheel or count the teeth also or somethin so i know its the right 1. Cause i know that junk yard screws **** up.
