if your throttle valve cable is adjusted properly and it shifts there, you need a different governer. it controls your shift points.

Have you verified that your tach is accurate? Mine seems to be off by as much as 25%!!!! According to my tach, mine shifts at 6k, but I replaced the governor and the TV cable with the same results. I tried to watch my speed when it shifted, and after I ran it through the proper RPM calculations, I came up with 4700, right where it should be.

I'm guessing he's got a 700, because if the T5 is shifting itself at 4k you better call an exorcist.

Well, if he has a 700R4 all he has to do is call B&M and buy a govener Shift Point Kit #20236 and follow the instructions. This kit will work on the TH-350, TH-400 and the 700R4.
Good Luck.

It doesn't necessarily have to be an issue with a governor, and using that to compensate for a different problem isn't smart. He needs to find out what the problem is first.

Well, when he said that everything was adj. properly (post 10/3 11;18) and he has a shift kit the only other easy way to change shift points is to change the weights or springs in the governor. If that sounds stupid i'am sorry but i have done it many times with great sucess. I assumed that after he installed the shift kit the trans shifted ok or he would of mentioned it. Oh, and i had my tach checked with a scan tool and it reads 250 rpm high. This method would be more accurete. Just my .02

He still hasn't even said whether he has checked his tach or not. Our stock tachs are NOT accurate at all.
IF everything else is operational, then I would also suggest that the governor is where to look at, but I know from my own personal experience that sometimes changing the governor doesn't help jack ****.

Jim, i didn't say anything about changing the govenor (HIC HIC) i said that he should change the gov. weights or springs (HIC HIC just got back from golf) on his gov. I mean you can do this mod and get within 50 rpm of your desired shift point. Vader do you have any imput???
