I will save you the trouble of doing a search. Jumper pins A&B(the 2 on the top right) of the ALDL connector(under the steering wheel). Turn the ignition to "ON" but DO NOT START THE CAR. The CE light will flash once, pause, the flash 2 more times. That is a 12. It will do this 3 times. After that it will flash the code. (EXAMPLE, flash, flash, flash, flash, pause, flash, flash) That is a code 42. If you look at the FAQ section on the home page there is a list of codes near the bottom of the page or you could post it here and we could give you some ideas for fixing the problem.

Most likely the coolant temp sensor, which sits right on top of the thermosta, is left disconnected.

Pop the hood, and go back and check your work.

ok i checked the coolant sensor and it looked fine. So then i tried the codes, i wasnt to sure where to stop but this is what i got:
14,14,15,15,15,12,12,12,14,14,14,15,15,15,12,12,12. And now when i try to start the car, if i let it idle for a few minutes the rpm drops and it dies.

https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/faq/thirdgen.shtml scroll all the way down to the bottom

12 is what you're supposed to see, it means the engine isn't running at the moment

14 & 15 are coolant temp sensor; 14 = shorted to ground (usually means the connector flopping around loose touching the engine), 15 = connector disconnected

RB is right. Check the cable to your coolant temp sensor.
