stalling under light throttle & hesitation

i posted some time ago about a hesitation when first opening the throttle blades. problem now has gotten worse. when in gear, not moving, engine warm, under very light throttle sometimes it stalls (did that to me several times today at traffic lights). under medium throttle it wont stall but hesisates at first. i try to take off from a light a bit hard now so the car wont stall. i also feel it when the car's moving. if i lay off the gas then on again, it wont stall but i can feel it jerk as if it wants to die. the stalling only happens in gear when not moving and it doesn't happen all the time. as i was pulling into my garage i stopped, barely touched the gas and it died.

IAC, TPS, plugs, wires, cap, rotor are new. have no codes or vacuum leaks that i can see. i've also set minimum air and TPS voltage. car i dunno what i could check next.

any help appreciated

Sounds like your timing is off. Maybe a little too far advanced. That is what was happening to me. I adjusted my timing and I haven't had a problem since.

actually turned out i did have a code, the computer must've set it when the car died cuz the light never turned on while running. i installed siamesed plenum and SLP runners recently so that's probably the cause of my code 44 (lean mixture). will bump the pressure up a bit tomorrow and see what happens. i cleared the ECM memory, took it for a drive, and felt much better.

Damn computers

Fuel Injection is nice but like Tim said at thirdgen nationals..."Just stay carb you can run fast for ALOT cheaper"

Ok that wasnt a direct qoute but it was something like that.

That symptom sounds like a bad or stuck EGR Valve. I had the same problem on my '89 GTA 350.

wouldn't be cheaper for me. the money i save on mods would only go towards all the gas the carb would suck in.

CC - doubt it's the EGR on mine. valve is working good and the solenoid was recently replaced. hopefully it's just a matter of bumping up the fuel pressure a bit.

well after i bumped up fuel pressure im still having the problem. my timing is set at 6* and i've checked vacuum lines for leaks. i've sprayed carb cleaner around the runners with no visible change. the code hasn't set again but the car still hesitates and stalls with very little pressure on the throttle. i have a pre-89 plenum installed and i thought maybe the stalling could have something to do with the CSI airway but i dont think its possible since the CSI hole is blocked by the runner. also i was thinkin that i may need a prom burned but i've been told that by just adding runners it should still run fine with the stock chip. if anyone has any other suggestions lemme know. thanks.

i swapped plenums and it didnt solve the problem. if in fact im gettin too much air in due to a vaccum leak or just from the runners and plenum,,,is it possible for the motor to die with the slightest touch of the gas?? the plates probably dont even move 1/4 inch but yet i still feel hesitation or it just stalls! i'm thinkin my problem may be somewhere else and i doubt i need to get a new prom burned with these basic mods.
