Ok can some one tell me if it is possible to build a 327 with 350 HP without having everything Forged would 64cc heads work well what about pistons and cam what lift of cam would I need and what kind of pistons flat top or dished? what compression ratio? I also want to run pump gas.

easy. single plane intake, big cam, rev it to hell. '68 and older 327s cam with forged small journal cranks stock. they are about $1500 from PAW.

The GM replica (ormaybe OEM from GMPP?) cam from the original 327/350 motors would probably be a good start...

Actually, '68 was the year they came out with the large journals. The stock crank is fine for 350 HP.Originally posted by Tas:

Flat top pistons with 64cc is about 10.25 CR (premium pump gas required). Cam would require close to .5" lift and about 220 @ .05 duration. Vortec heads w/screw-in studs and upgraded springs would probably make all that work nicely.

flat tops and 64 cc chambers do not yeald 10.25 to 1 it makes 9.2 to 1. any ways. realy good flowing heads like 292 turbo heads, any camel humps, 993, 441, 882, or any after market heads. realy good flowing heads is a key componet in build a good high perf motor. 10.5:1 to 11:1 would be good compesion ratio, anything lower and you would not acheve 350 hp. as said befor the 350hp 327 cam would be a good start however i would recomend a 270 grind comp cam shaft. Vic Jr intake or a perf rpm, and a 650 holley. hope this helps

All above is great info just throw out those head casting numbers. I can't believe that 993, 441 and 882 smog heads are being compaired to 292's.
Take a look at what GM did for the 327/350hp L-79's
11-1 CR, .447 lift 221* at .050 hydraulic camshaft, 492 heads (I think, could have been 461 or 2's), an intake that closely resembles a Performer RPM and a 780 mech. secondary carb.

I agree with Wardo, you're not getting 1.1 HP/CID out of anything with a set of 882s on it. They're garbage.
The best heads for a 327 as far as junkyard models are the 292, 041, 186, or 492. All of those are double-humps with accessory bolt holes. As you will probably hav more in a set of those by the time they're ready to use than you would in a set of new aftermarket ones, you'd do better to get a pair of Edelbrocks or AFRs or something. I don't think the Vortecs are the way to go because of the amount of machine work required to prep them adequately for this application; Fast Burns would be an option though. You'll need flat-tops as a bare minimum; IIRC you end up with about 9.3:1 with those and 64cc heads as all those above are, which is at the extreme low end of the range you need to be in. Something with about a 8-10cc dome would help get to the 10.3-10.5:1 range.
The GM flat-tappet cams suck, plain and simple, especially compared to ones that have been developed in the latter part of the last 30 years. A better choice would be a Comp XE274H, or even better, a roller with about the same specs; or for the best of all, go solid, either flat or roller. Big springs are essential, and roller rockers would be a major plus. Being a relatively small motor, a 3310 (750-780 CFM in its various incarnations) carb would be good. 1-5/8 headers would be appropriate.

hate to tell you this guys but acroding to this book i have on small block chevy cylinder head modifacatons, with only monor work to the intake runners, 3 angle job, back cut the valve, and some other valve triks a set of 993 can out flow simler modified 186 castings. i also read that mild motofied 441, 993 can out flow L98 heads. so there
