I don't believe it. They are probably just corvette l98s. Either way those aren't bad heads for 305s.

Theyre not aluminum. Theyre painted silver. Look at the guide plates, studs, and coolant ports. Guideplates and studs are NOT normally silver, and you can see some underspray in one of the coolant ports. Theyre painted iron heads.

I really doubt the guy would sell the heads as Al. if they were CI...then again, buyer beware, huh?

I didn't see any overspray, but if they were painted, who says you can't paint Al. heads? They could have been sand/bead-blasted as well...that's make the studs and guide plates appear as "silver".

Another thing is they have the exhaust crossover, rules them out as replacement Vette heads. Also, they're perimeter bolt VC's.

Are there any aluminium aftermarket heads you guys would recomend for a 305? I would like them to be legal in CA too. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could use l98 vette heads, but youll have to run the EGR externally.

Make it easy on yourself...and at smog time. Find/look for a set of heads with an EGR crossover port.

My *guess* is with proper documentation you could run the Vette heads and reclassify the engine as a Vette engine and smog accordingly...but you'd better verify with a smog place (maybe start with a call to a local BAR place, I think there's one in Redwood City/San Carlos area) to see what kind of hoops you need to jump through.

Instead of Al, you might want to look into TrickFlow heads w/58cc Combustion Chambers and do some work on them, seach some posts from "57kid", he went with the TF's and did some work on them.

You could always work on your own heads as well.

There's really no reason to drop big bucks on heads unless you're going to compliment them with cam/exhaust and induction changes.

i/e bolting on a set of HP heads on a stock 305, won't get you much over a few hours with a diegrinder on your existing heads. Been awhile since I've been through Atascadero, nice litte ride though the mountain-ish area back to 280, IIRC.

Cant tell for sure but they are painted silver. Look into the water passage you can see a dull area where it look like they are the real deal but the combustion chamber looks more like cast iron. ask the guy to scratch somthing to prove what material thier made of.
