I'll just take it one step at a time and ask question as I get to the part......

My first that I know will be the timing cover? what do I use on the bolts? do I need to put anything on the gasket?

and then the water pump? after that is a bunch of brackets.

Put nothing on the TC bolts; use high-tack or silicone on its gasket; use high-tack (NOT silicone) on the water pump bolts. Lightly sand the harmonic balancer where the front seal rides on it, with about 320 grit sandpaper, and clean it up afterwards to make sure there's no grit left on it, and lube it with white lithium or something. Use a large block of wood and one huge whap to put the front seal in the TC; support it from behind under the seal bore itself with another block of wood or something similar so you don't bend the TC. Grind or file the little ears of the oil pan seal retainer thing on the TC, just sort of lop off about 1/4" of the corner, so it will go back in easier; and slip a blob of silicone into the corner where the TC, OP and block all come together.

You don't need the Loctite for anything.

Have lots of fun. Always. That's the main thing.

Throughout your "endeavor" here Wishmaster, I was not 100% sure what you were doing by taking the motor down so far... But... I hope it gives you some substantial gains and it reliable for ya. Be sure to keep us updated.

OK, Nothing on the Timing cover bolts, use the black stuff on the TC gasket? just enough to coat the gasket good? High tack? whats that? on the water pump bolts....

So I wont be using the threadlocker on anything on the motor?

Use a thread sealer on the intake manifold bolts or oil can find its way up the threads and puddle on the manifold. I learned that one the hard way.

Here are 2 excellent choices for water pump bolt thread sealer. The one on the left is High Tack. I happened to get both of these at NAPA, but they're both Permatex products. The one on the right is Pematex 300. I actually prefer the one on the left for water pump bolts. It's purple.

I don't think I have any Loctite in my (enormous) collection of miscellaneous spooge. But I've only been building motors now for 30 some-odd years, so I'm really just a spring chicken especially compared to some of the others on this board; but in all my days, I have yet to need it, except to attach Speedy-Sleeves. And they supply some with the sleeve when you buy it, so I don't keep it on hand. I simply don't find it useful for anything.

I strongly suggest you buy a Helms manual for your car. It will be the best thing you ever did!

I put timing cover gaskets on bare. I avoid using silicone and paper/cork gaskets in unison....

I use the white liquid teflon on any threads that need sealing (water pump, intake, etc.) that don't need oil on them (or the like) for torqueing purposes.....

ok...its gaskets OR silicone. A gasket sealer is good. Grease up seals with rotating parts (crankshaft).

As far as the intake manifold...if you use OE manifold, all gaskets are OK. If aftermarket aluminum...they usually recommend discarding front and rear rubber gaskets and using a 1/4 bead of RTV.

Now, the timing cover...you do not have to drop the oil pan, unless your TC does not come out that way. If it does come out easy enough...you can trim off the **** on the side of the bottom TC rubber. To take place of the missing rubber, use RTV.
