Silly engine... help please

Ok, here is the problem. My car seems to be running hot. Unfortunately I’m running a base model 1987 firebird [I don’t have a temp gauge].
I’m loosing coolant slowly. I don’t know where [no drips] or why [didn’t do it when I first got it]. Seems to be taking a quarter of what should be in my overflow tank, a week. Also, I seem to have some gas on my intake manifold [LG4 Carbed]. Leak? Should I replace the gaskets.
After turning it off, it seems to stay hot for an extended period of time [more than I would expect]. The last thing to go along with this bunch of idiosyncrasies is my performance… @ WOT in low gears, I get NO pull, however when I hit about 55 she’ll RUN to 95. I don’t understand if its my carb [which may be @ fault for a few of these things] or if its something else that needs to be replaced/adjusted.
Thanks for any help you may give!

Have you changed you oil lately? Might have it going there if a bad intake gasket. Or do you see white smoke coming out of your exhaust? If you do, you have a bad head gasket. Just two guesses as to where it is going.

as to the loss of power, it could very well be the carb.

Can you determine if you have good coolant flow?

Is the radiator warm and shedding hot air when the engine is idling?

The excessive engine heat needs to be remedied first. You may need a thermometer or some other means to test coolant temperature.

I had noticed it [the heat] before, but after leaving my car idle for 20 min while adjusting my amp, I poped the hood to make a quick check of everything. I turned it off, cause I wanted to check my carb to see if there was anything noticably wrong with it. I let it sit for 45-60 min and came back out, took off the air filter and burned myself. The radiator was warm, but my hoses were def. hot. It may just be me over-reacting, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Also, with the oil. I've been in the process of giving it a tune up [(buying all the stuff as I can, this is the 2nd fbody this summer, so I don't have much $$ to spare ] oil change was slated for thurs [tomorrow] night after I cash my next check. There is white smoke, but only a single puff when I start it after sitting for more than 8 hours. I was under the impression that this was typical for our cars... correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I need to take it over to my buddys house to check/adjust the timing and see if we can tweak the carb. I'm also diesling occasionally, so I wanna clean the carb and adjust the timing to hopefully get rid of it.

Thanks for the help so far guys!
