Cowl-Induction Setup for TransAm

Hey guys,

Well, I just found my THIRD complete Cowl Induction set-up in the junkyard. I'm thinking of selling this one, but I wanted to know what it's worth. I wanted to know what to set my reserve at when I put it on eBay.

FYI, I didn't get the under pedal accelerator or the wiring. All that I have is the air cleaner with the hole in the top, and the plastic cowl unit with the solenoid and wiring harness. This is the one that attaches to either the TBI or 4-bbl Carburetor set-up, not the CFI set-up.

By the way, just an FYI, there is a complete HO 1984 TransAm in the local U-PULL-IT yard in Fort Lauderdale. What else should I take from that car? It has the 4-wheel disc brakes, as well as the complete posi rear end. It has leather seats, and the power drivers set as well as that fancy center TTOP console.

By the way, are those heads good heads? Should I snag them? I can get them

Todd

I passed that up once at a junkyard... thought "Oh, cool, I've heard of those"- then I found out how rare they were.

Yeah.... I recently just bought a house. So... for anyone that owns a house will tell you it ends up costing more than you expect! heheh..

Just to make the bill paying easier, I go through the junkyard once a week and look for parts that may have a decent value to them.. like a Cross-Fire Injection setup, stuff like that.

I'd like to sell one of these.. I don't want to come out with an outrageous price, but I wan't to get at least what it's worth to the masses.

Well.. for example, I sold a Corvette CFI setup.

Someone with an 83 TransAm bought the car.

I guess he wanted to keep it original, yet at the same time, have more performance. The Vette CFI setup is configured (with injectors) for a mild 350 V8. The 82-83 CFI setup on a Firebird / Camaro is configured for a smogged 305 V8.

I'll assume you're talking about the L69 heads... yes, they are good, but with a little port cleanup, they can be great heads, but I wouldn't use them on more than an overbored 350. They would be too small for a 383 for example, but great for a 305 or a 350

Dunno I bought a new house, I'm sure my ex wife loves it The only problem with it was She lived there... lol.

Ive seen the electric setups along with the air cleaner assemblies go for 100-$200 that fit a carb. CFI junk is cheaper and more common around $100. I'll sell mine for $50 all I wanted was the hood.

I bought my cowl induction setup on ebay, I think it was some 40 or 50 bucks, but dont remember that closely.

I got the same parts you said you have, but I need the stuff between the wireing harness and carburator, whatever it is. I have heard it is supposed to be an vacuum switch mounted on the brake booster,or thereabout.

If you somehow could source it, I would pay you for it.

I second that. Now that I have said that I secretly want to own a 1982 black and gold Trans-AM with the CFI setup in it. Why? I don't know. I love those cars. I want one that is perfect. Factory perfect and all original. Would I mod it? Hell no. That is what my 87 is for. I've just always wanted one.
