starter engages as soon as I connect the negative cable!!
Just like it says. I had everything hooked up, went to start the car, wouldn't start, but when i tunred the key to the off position and took it out, the starter continued to try and engage...so i disconnected the neg. cable....now every time I try to reconnect the battery, the car tries to start....HELP! I have a remote start solenoid. And everything is wired up correctly, just as it always has been....

Pull your starter out and physically check it's condition. I had the same prob. and the starter had a broken washer at the end of the gear, which caused it to get hung up on the ring gear, and wouldn't disengage.

The remote solenoid may have kicked the bucket. That happened to me once - the spring inside it failed and wouldn't pull the contacts apart. Of course, it locked on while I was driving, so I didn't realize it until I stopped to turn around.
Thankfully, the teeth on the starter drive are a bit softer than those on the flywheel

If you have an ohmmeter, you can check for continuity across the large terminals of the solenoid...with the negative cable unhooked...

I took off the new starter (had it on there a total of ONE day), and put the old one back on....and didn't have the problem. I dunno...weird.
If sb were only so simple.
I put a replacment motor in my firberglass dune buggy. I had a neighbor kid (15) do all the bolt work. He didnt realize the starter was mounted to the tranny so he took off all the wires.
When we put the abttery backin after he hooked everything up the starte was going 24/7 with the battery hooked up seemed he switched some wires around. Possibly your problem?
On a totally off topic note. The volkswagon engine had a total of three wires.
three wires, four bolts, throttle linkage cable. Motor out. Motor in. drive away. I blew a motor in the mountains. My wife drove me home, I unbolted a motor out of my bug, drove back up and installed it in the blown rig all in a day and drove it home.
If these f-bodys were so easy...

No, didn't use shims w/ either starter. It must be the starter, because it cant be any other variable....as I said, i have a remote start solenoid, so when I put in a starter, the only wire I have to hook up is the one big one on the starter.
