Belt Tensioner Questions Quick

Did searching.. most answers answered already... a few extras leftover:

i just did smog-pump removal. now tensioner bad. possible cause maybe? how can i tell if that caused tensioner failure?

do i replace the entire unit? or can i just replace the bearing? or the pulley?

notes:
tensioner has 110,000 miles on it. is this typical failure time?
tension seems correct. line on bracket in far left side but inside the lines on the tensioner. uh, yeah.
a/c compressor making noise when on also. does not alter tension, however.

ah, one last thing. my alternator bracket broke! crazy. the top part snapped off... it sits there, still, with nothing holding it but the bottom bolt, and it doesnt come off. ive revved the motor to 6500 rpms and it sits still. can i just leave it sitting there like that? i guess tension in the belt holds it down.

You can just replace the pulley, comes with bearing installed.
Just normal wear.

I would think eventually your bracket will let go and then you'll have a major problem with the alt smacking around in there while driving.

Removing the air pump will not cause a failure.

110,000 miles if you've never lubed it before would be good luck.

That Alternator bolt will only hold for a while like that. Eventually it will bend and break off. Best to fix it now.

Weld/repair the bracket unless you want to risk finding your alternator buried in your radiator.

ah, it wasnt the tensioner anyways. im going to lube it.. whats the proceedure? smear grease in it?

it was actually the water pump pulley bolts walking out and the belt was about to jump off the thing.

i put loctite on the bolts and put it back in.

going to weld up the ear on the alt bracket soon as suggested vader.

and so far, so good. getting stealthram here in a week or so, we will see.

I had a noisy tensioner pulley, so I took it off and cleaned & lubed it. You'll find a seal on both sides of the bearing that come off without getting damaged if your careful. Clean it out with solvent to get rid of old lube, let dry, and re-pack with grease. Re-install seals, and you're good to go.

also make sure to check the races (to your best ability) and the bearings for pitting, cracks, or excessive wear.

beside the alternator, its the thing you put a 1/2 drive rachet into to remove the serpentine belt.

The bearing in my tensioner went bad before. Tried to get a new pully from Autozone with the bearing already in it, but it was a really cheezy stamped piece that didnt even have guides for the belt. So I went to Advance Auto and got a new bearing and just swapped that into my old pully. Was about $8 I think.
