cutting intake bolts
cutting intake bolts
i posted a question earlier about trouble getting my intake off. well, i've got all but two of the bolts out and they are absolutely impossible to get off. i have broken off FIVE torx bits trying to get these bolts off, and yes i am turning them the right way. i don't think the previous owner knew the difference between a torque wrench and a harmonic balance puller so i have no idea what they were torqued down to. so since now i've got the broken off torx tips stuck inside the bolt heads and i can't seem to get those out i'm left with just cutting/drilling the bolts or some other method for extraction if anybody has any ideas. so what is the best way cut these out? i'm assuming i'll need some kind of cut-off wheel but what would work best? thanks
just a WAG but i'd say the bolts have loc-tite on them. heat will melt it out, but that may not be easy or safe to do. if you can cut them off and get the intake off you may be able to use a pipe wrench on what's left of the bolt.
