performer rpm air gap questions

i'm interested in putting a performer rpm air gap on my 89 firebird with a factory power bulge hood and have a few questions.

1) edelbrock's site only shows one for 86 and earlier engines. what's involved in fitting them to 87 and newer (non-vortec) heads?

2) it doesn't have a provision for egr. can one be added? does egr just go straight into an intake from the fitting, or is there internal plumbing for the egr cast into an intake that is egr ready?

3) how about the height? the edelbrock website shows this:

performer: "a" 3.50" "b" 4.60"

performer air gap: "a" 3.72" "b" 4.92"

performer rpm: "a" 4.20" "b" 5.25"

performer rpm air gap: "a" 4.20" "b" 5.25"

performer tbi: "a" 3.70" "b" 5.10"

it also says the performer tbi is .250 taller than stock.

i'm kinda puzzled by the performer tbi dimensions. the difference between the "a" and "b" dimensions is pretty extreme. why is the tbi angled forward so much more tha carbs?

does anyone have the "a" and "b" dimensions of the factory tbi intake?

If you have a stock intake you can turn it upside down on a flat surface and measure the carb pad height just like Edelbrock does.
Remove the carb studs and use a tape measure to measure the ends to surface distance.
then you can calcaulate how much higher the new manifold will raise your carburator/ aircleaner.

The Performer RPM manifold will fit under a stock Firebird hood
IF:

You use the right GM factory 60's muscle car air cleaner.
This is the origional air cleaner used on 60/70's chevy small blocks and Big blocks.

A holley carb *will* require the choke horn to be shortened or removed to provide proper air flow with this low profile drop base aircleaner. A Edelbrock carb only requires a 3/8" thick plastic air horn ring spacer (Edelbrock Catalog) to fit this air cleaner. (use a 14x3" filter element.)

This old GM air cleaner allows more room than other aftermarket aircleaners. There is even enough room for a NOS plate undr the carb.

You can buy one of these aircleaners or, just the base from
here.

I went from the performer to the RPM air gap this spring. I sat both on the engine and used a straight edge over the fenders and messured them at the same place. The RPM air gap is 15/16th's of an inch taller.

That 'd be the one.

It's upside down....

You can buy the whole aircleaner assembly or just the base.

The top is the same as most common generic chrome air cleaner tops.

What carb will you be using?

Can't guarantee this aircleaner base will fit the TBI.

It was made for carbs of the era.
But it may fit fine with a spacer.
Edelbrock sells aircleaner spacers that may help if nessessary.

If the TBI body is not as tall as a 4barrel carb you may be able to use a generic aftermarket chrome 14/3" open element air cleaner.
They are a little taller and have more clearance underneath.

A holley carb is 3.25" from the base to the aircleaner flange
on the carb. How tall is the TBI body to the same flange?
Don't forget to include any adapter thickness that u use to mount the TBI to the manifold.

I think you would be fine with a drop base aircleaner with TBI. I had a performer TBI with a 3'' k&n and a flat base and it fit.

Then I got a holley street dominator intake (idle-7200) pretty tall intake topped with a 670 street avenger carb. Needless to say i ended up having to get a drop base and a smaller filter and it still hit the stock hood. (camaro)

Ahh cervini 3'' cowl. ahhh 3'' k&n flat base again...now I just need that nitrous plate.
