Where, oh where, has my anifreeze gone?

I found out, was getting gas this morning, walked back out to the car, saw the puddle of A/F, popped the hood, sho-nuff, there it was, sprewing out the bottom weep hole.

I've settled for an Autozone GMB brand new pump, I'd have prefered an ACDelco, but hey, I'm poor..

Damn hose clamps were the hardest part of the install..

I had the same prob last spring...luckily the car was in the driveway when I noticed the leak in the morning. I was planning to drive it to FL and would have been SOL if it leaked on the highway. As for the hose clamps, Craftsman has a set of pliers just for such instances.....the job was still a bear though.

Mac,

There's nothing wrong with a reman pump if it's done right. One thing you'll want to be aware of. I'll spare you the three-chapter story, but I had a "bad" reman and it drove me freakin' nutty. When you get the replacement pump, open the rear cover and inspect the impeller. I had one that had an impeller that was eroded to nearly nothing (no vanes) and I spent a lot of time and money f"fixing" other things until I discovered the problem with the "lifetime" water pump. The rebuilders apparently felt there was nothing wrong with using the POS parts as long as the pump didn't leak.

You might even want to take a socket to the parts store to inspect the pumps until you find a good one. If they give you $hit over opening the pumps, tell them about what can happen and ask if they want to sell a pump or not.

And, as always, Never-Seize the hardware.

Yeah, I was pleased overall with the GMB pump, A1, Cardone, they're all pretty good units, I'd avoid "Wordwide" brand though, that's what Advance sells...

We threw and Autozone w/p on a 92 RS for a friend. The old pump had been weeping and car was starting to run hot. New pump also ran hot. To make a long story short, after chacking many other parts, I pulled the pump and pulled the back cover off it. Our supposed reverse rotation pump had a standard impeller. I started to raise hell at Autozone, but it was the right part number for a rev pump, just built wrong!

I bought a lifetime warranty replacement water pump (reman of course) from Pep Boys... glad I did. I went through three pumps in the January cold before I got a good one. Oh and for those that don't know, the 2.8 water pumps use the whole back of the pump for the gasket to the timing chain cover. Talk about a scraping nightmare! This all goes back to the "I hate gaskets" point I love to make
