Pease Help. Car wont start.

I have a 91 RS 305 Tbi P.O.S.. I had a problem with my car not starting soI took it to a mechanic. He put in a new computer and reworked all the engine grounds and it ran like a dream. Now It wont start again. I have fuel and spark but no start. It turns over great but never even tries to fire. It ran great on my way home from work, but when I got up the next morning it wouldn't start. Any ideas where to go next would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hook your timing light to the #1 wire and check for operation while cranking the engine. If it doesn't operate the timing light I'd look into a new (Delco) ignition module.

Thanks for the idea. I hooked the light to the battery and plugged the adapter in to the number one wire and cranked and got nothing. THen I tried the same thing on my wifes Corolla and it lit up. So, I guess it's the ignition coil?

Doubtful it is the coil, Ignition module is most likely. Take it to your local auto parts store and see about getting it tested (call around and see who can do the testing).

Okay, pulled the module and coil and had them both tested at autozone and they both tested good. SO, now I'm still at a loss. But thanks for the help. Any other ideas as to where to turn next would be greatly appreciated. To make things worse, now my wife's car is acting up. Starting to sputter. Next I guess the house will burn down!

Okay, went outside and put everything back together. Picked up all my tools and just generally cleaned up a little. Got in my car to get my keys out. Decided to try it one more time and it fired right up. Now it's starting just like nothing ever happened. I spent 10 hours adjusting and testing and moving stuff and when I finally gave up it started laughing at me and fired up. I hate my car.

I had a problem similiar to this. I had my module tested at autozone and they said it was good. After a few days of mulling this over with still no results, I went ahead and bought a new module. The car started right up and hasn't failed to crank since.

Yes, if it passed the check, get a new Delco one anyway. If it had failed you would have had no doubt what was going to fix it, but the module is the one thing that just up and quits in the ignition system and usualy just like happened to you, ran good, parked car and won't restart.

The check on the coil should have just been a simple resistance check since it is just a few miles of wire thats all it takes to check it. The module has more in it than just wire and we all know how falkey electronics can be.

Yeah I'll probably replace it. I figured since I was going to AZ with the module I might as well make them do the coil at the same time. Thanks for the help guys.
