i wanna take out my ac but its filled and i cant go somewhere to get it emptied. so how do i empty it??

 

The air conditioning gas (which I believe is Freon, although it may be spelled differently) is highly dangerous stuff and I don't think it would be wise to try to remove it yourself, unless you are trained to do so and have the correct containers to store it in. I've heard of people losing fingers whilst draining that stuff, so I'd leave it to the professionals.

 

Don't know WTF this guys talking about but crack a line and wait 30-45 seconds, all of a sudden you have no more Freon. I guess if you get scared by the "hiss" and the hood falls down across your hands....

Ofcourse I don't see the logic in taking apart a perfectly good system, but to each his own.

 

well its illegal to do.. but grab a phillips head screw driver, push in the shrader valve and stand bad.. if anybody notices or informs u its illegal tellem omg! i accidently broke my ac line while tryin to pull my spark plug! and act really dissapointed.. hehe

 

you could always use a long screwdriver, and press in the shrader valve.

keep clear though because that stuff will be cold enough to give you frostbite.


that will remove all the stuff under pressure.


to really empty the system so you can refill it, you need a vac pump

 

My only peeve about dumping a good R12 system is the 90 bucks lost in the evac.

I'm really suprised an AC place wouldn't evac it for free, due to the cost of R12.

 

alot of places will do it for free (smaller shops) and if you have any people around the area you can be sure they will get you introuble

 

Why contribute to the pollution problems we have right now? c'mon, just fork up the cash, or the gas to drive to a shop, and have it evac'd by a pro.

 

umm, get a valve core tool and loosen it a little bit... its only illegal if a cop sees you

and for my next trick, im going to stick my face over the nitrous purge and hit the button.

 

when high pressure gas expands, its cools rapidly and ALOT.

in other words, touch the air coming out and you will freeze your hand.

 

hm... maybe my A/C had some different stuff in it. I was looking around to see what all I could rip out, and accidently opened it (I was going to do that anyway, but wasn't ready at the moment) and the blast hit me in the face... it felt just like normal air out of a tire or something... I'm still here, both eyes, both eyebrows

I just let it "his" for like 30 minutes or so, then yanked it all out :hail:

 

was it working before you did that?

it obviously wasnt under full pressure if it was like tire air.

Maybe when you've taken people to hospital with severe injuries caused purely by a lack of experience with air conditioning equipment, you'll have more of an understanding.

yes, the A/C worked, but I got even worse MPG when I ran it, when the car wasn't moving, it made horrible noises.

Well, the blast of air was REAL strong, I didn't mean to compare the strength to a tire, just that it didn't "burn" me or irritate my face.

i cant drive the car cus its not registered and its not inspected and i wanna get rid of it so all i gotta do is take off that lil cap on the cannister and push a screwdriver in it or crack the line?

 

seriously, just wait till you can get it to a shop. they will collect it for FREE. please, dont pollute any more than you have to. yes, i dont have a smog pump and all that stuff, but come on, dumping r-12 into the air? thats just ignorant.

 

Lol....25 + years ago, long before anyone was telling us R-12 was "bad", it was common practice to crack the fitting off the compressor, wait a 1/2 minute or so as it left the system, then change what was needed, pump it down, fill it up, and go on our way.

If someone was doofus enough to burn thier hands, etc in the process, they shouldn't have a wrench in thier hands.

Side note about R12, always though it was heavier than air...seems it would sink to the ground, rather than dissolve in the air ...I dunno.

Oh, and for the enviromentalist in the group that was me digging holes next to fence post's to dump the oil changes in.: ... posts never rotted.

well dont call me an environmentalist yet....hell i dont even dig holes for my oil changes . Actually in the off-road community (read: me) taking care of these things is a big concern. see, you guys dont know what its like to have to fight to keep your "roads" from being taken away by the tree-hugging environmentalists. every little wrong we do, gets multiplied 100x by those fawkers. so i guess it just makes me naturally concerned

 

Whatever your opinion on how bad R-12 is, I for one am not willing to advise someone I've never met to "crack open a line" when it contains a potentially harmful substance, both to the environment and to him. You say someone has to be a "doofus" to burn themselves with it, what makes you so sure the guy who started the thread isn't a doofus? I'm sure you're not, raffi, but still....

yea my ac has been converted to r-34 or watever the new version is but i think im gunna think about this one for a little while. gotta swap my rearend first.
