TH350 what fitting is in and what is out?
i've asked twice on the trans board and never got anywhere so i hope a moderator doesn't move this on me
. any way i have a TH350 and i need to know which fitting is the inlet and which is the outlet. i need to know to plumb the oil filter correctly and then run the line to a permacool oil cooler and back to the trans. the best i got before was to unhook a line from my radiator and see if it is under preasure or not. all my stuff is out of the car so that won't work and my radiator doesn't have a trans cooler in it. thanks

Ed,
Boy, I'm tempted to move this to the correct forum, but after all, I'm dumber, dammit!
And this doesn't help much with the oil lines:
I hate to repeat (or augment) a previous suggestion, but you could turn the input shaft of the transmission (clockwise from the front, of course) and observe the bubbles at the fittings.
I never really paid much attention to the inlet and discharge line orientation, since it really doesn't matter for a stock oil cooler. You WOULD have to be different.
I'll bet as soon as GMT sees this post, he'll be able to tell you immediately. He's probably still asleep, dreaming of overrunning clutches and accumulators right now...

there isn't any fluid in the trans, it's bolted to an angine stand right now. i wasn't planning to add any oil to it untill i had it in the car. other wise i thought of turning the pump too and seeing what happened. yeah i've bee nwaiting for GMT to jump in here and make the rest of us look stupid with such an easy question.

Why don't they just label it for you from the factory?!?!?!?!
I guess they plan on a bunch of power hungry maniacs modifying their stuff!!!!

Why is it so important to know which line is which BEFORE the trans is in the car. It's not like you can mock up the filter set-up out of the car! Just wait till you put the tranny in your car and do what I said on the tranny board. JEEEZZZZZ! I'm not trying to be a **** but d@mn I though my previous posts were pretty clear.

I hate to be such a simpleton here, but if I were you, I'd swallow my pride a bit and just call one of your local transmission shops and ask one of their more knowledgeable mechanics.

yeah i can mock the filter up with the trans out of the car, that's what i want to do, well not mock it up, but complete the installation of the filter, i already have the cooler and fan installed then all i have to do is hook up the 2 line to the trans when i get it in the car and forget about it. the lines cost way to much to get made and a few inches adds up ,plus makes for a neater installation.

the lines from the trans to the filter will be -4 or -6. from the filter to the cooler -8. from the cooler back to the trans -4 or -6. knowing what fitting is in and out is very important and if i fit everything up before i set the trans in i need to know, can't go guessing. and i can't simply reverse the lines like you said there will be a differance of several feet in the lengths.
