cruising in the f-body's feel good
i have 126K on my 85 z28. it only has 15K on the engine and 12K on the tranny. it sounds really nice driving under the expressway and reving it up. with the t-tops off you can almost feel the sound. it sees the red line every once in a while. i hate it when those POS sport compacts think that they have a faster ride than me. i know my 305 is not much to brag about but it feels good to ahead in the field. my first and previous car was a 78 olds cutlass with a stock original 260 v8 with 72K miles on the car. i want to sell it if anyone is interested. big jump from the 115 hp engine. my 305 was dyno tested at 245hp. yeah, it does feel good to have more hp. you can never have enough!

well if its a tpi and an 85 why is that so far off? it's a new eng. won't take too much to get that out of it.

IIRC, 245hp is the rating of a 92 TPI 350, which is the most factory HP of NA thirdgens, and that isn't even rear wheel, I believe. Even if it is, he's talking about a 305. That's quite a feat. I'm not calling BS or anything, it just doesnt sound normal.

I guessed at the HP rating because I have a 92 TPI 350. I checked on the tech data, which I'm sure is not exhaustive, and the highest rating in '85 was 215HP. Again, I dont thing that's even rear wheel.
Again, not crying BS at all, I just want to know what he did to get that much out of his 305 - I'm sure there are a lot of 5.0 owner's who'd like to know, too.

I had approx 255rwhp with my 305. About 320 at the flywheel according to this HP calculator, (which seems kinda high)
http://www.fastcoolcars.com/hp_calculator.htm?et=15.9
.
TPI with a cam, headers, full 3" exhaust, 52mm TB, 5 speed, 3.42 gears, MSD 6A, Blaster 3 coil.
14.16@99mph with a 2.3 60' time. 3520lbs race weight.

I'd like to know too since my stock 87 LB9 Trans Am lost to a 3.0/5 speed Probe from a roll. I was reeling him in but I was already at 80mph and I wasn't going to go triple digits just to try and beat a Probe. If we'd gone from a roll I think I could have gotten him but never the less, I still lost.

I guess you'd just have to assume he built it with some upgrade parts. I thought, at first, he was saying it was a basically stock 305, I was like no way! I'm not, by any means, saying it's not possible to make some power with a 305, just thought he meant stock lol.

well, I guess he really didn't say. I just figured who rebuilds a 305 and does not put at Least a better cam in it? its not a roller block ('85) so the cam is needed. and he spent the dyno money
