Double hump head

Does any one have a picture of the end of a head showing the double hump casting mark. I am at a loss on what I am looking at.
Thanks
John

to be crude kind of like that except w/o the peaks. imagine half-circles in place of those. double humps come with and without accessory holes.

in my opinion they are good heads but it is almost to the point now with older chevrolet heads you have to spend a good bit of money to have all of the work done to them to have a good set of heads. its almost worth saving your money and getting a set of dart iron eagles or another aftermarket cast iron head.

Hey Spud, post the casting # and I can tell you if it's a camel back head, or also commonly called the "fuelie" head.

I don't think they are, because they are 305 heads, but any way the casting # is 354434.
Thanks
John

The most common double hump casting #'s are (I'm using the last 3 digits) 186,492,461,and 492- there are others, but I'm listing the most common. The 186,492 have accessory bolt holes in the the front of the head like modern heads do. Some of these more desirable ones are 461X,292(angle plug), and 370 (angle or straight plug)all these heads have slightly bigger intake runners. The 292 and 370 have accessory holes as well.Another head that is a 64cc comb chamber, comparable runner head is an 041 -- these perform as good as a double hump. The casting mark on a double hump looks like two half circles, located directly in the front of the head. The 041 has a triangle that points to the exhaust side, unlike the 882 and some 305 heads that point towards the intake. Hope this helps

Enough said Spud. They never made a fuelie head for the 305, so I guess your question is answered! To the guy from Basset racing: I have another casting # to add to the list. I have two sets of fuelie heads that are casting # 462. They're almost identical to the 461 castings. They're the early style with no accesory holes, and the sets I have are dated around '66.

Thanx, Pat. I missed that one. I actually have a set of those(462's), 461's, and a set of 041's. My 462's are dated 66 also, my 461's are dated 64, and my 041's are dated 69. I recently sold a set of 186's, dated 70.
