CC306 vs. XR282HR or...

I would just like some opinions to help me decide between these two cams. Comp techline recommended the CC306, but Ive recently been looking at the XR282HR as well.(230/236@.050", .510/.520 w/ 1.5s, 110* LSA) These two cams are very similar, but the XR cam has the advantage of aggressive intake ramps, while the 306 has a more desireable 112* lobe seperation and slightly more lift. Another option would be to have an XR282 ground on a 112* LSA. I would like a streetable combo, but Im willing to sacrifce some streetability for performace at the strip. Any opinions or other options would be appreciated.
Engine- 355cid, 10.3:1 static CR, aluminum 200cc ProLightnings, Comp 1.6 rockers, StealthRam, SLP 1 3/4 shorties and full 3in exhaust, 3.45 gears, 700R4 w/ 2500 stall

Check out what the LT1 guys at camaroz28.com are doing. They are all starting to run with the XR cams and getting away from everything else. The 282 on a 112 would be wicked, might be hard for emissions though with a 350. Lots of comments on the 282 over there.

I am running a XR276HR-12 in my Superram 383. Hit the gas and hold on, i dont even bother trying to accelerate in 1st gear, the cam ramps up real quick and pulls hard up top.

I imagine the 282-12 in an HSR motor would be like the Energizer Bunny, keeps going and going and going.

Thanks for the responses guys. Another option would be an XR288HR ground on a 112* LSA, but this cam might be on the ragged edge of streetable. Any predictions on how pwr brakes would work with it?

That is an awfull big cam to run on a 112, the more LSA you grind in the higher up in the RPM range you move your power band, you dont loose any power you just push the whole curve forward. The 288 is big hitter, it will feel more at home at the track then the street. However you just have to decide what you want out of the car for manners.

Yeah youre probably right, a 112* 288 grind would probably be too aggressive. I dont want to under-cam the engine, either; I want it to pull to at least 6000rpm. The 282 on a 112* LSA may be my best option. Thanks for the input Omnious.

On a stealthram I would consider the 224/230 XR on a 110LSA.

I have the CC306...

I have the Comp cam in my 95 Trans Am with LT4. It has a stock shortblock with a modded top end.

That cam has my motor producing 460 horsepower and 425 lb ft. My hp peaks at 6350 rpm and is only down a hair at 6500.

I can show you a dyno graph if you want. Only thing that is a pain is you have to have an idle of about 950-1000 rpm to run all the accesories and all that with enough vacuum.

I'd go with the 282 on 112. I've had good results even going to 114. Best cam I ever used in a street engine though was a crower 00550 solid roller which had a 114 LSA. But you have to not mind running the valves occasionally, the hydraulic roller definitely gets the nod for low maintenance, and cost if you've already got a roller block.

I'll be swapping to the XR 282hr over the winter. Right now i have its flat tappet counterpart, the xe274. I'm told the roller version is whole lot more cam should make for some good fun. This will be going in a similiar setup, 355, trickflow 195's big difference is i'm carbed. Car ran 12.90's at 109 with the flat tappet, looking for some low 12's with the roller.

I've got the 282HR in my 350. I love it. I do think I need some better heads though to take full advantage of the cam. I want some Pro Topline 180's. It has a great, lopey idle, and screams from 2300 on up. This is on a carbed motor, so FI may need a little bigger LSA. Even Comp told me it wouldn't make the TPI real happy. I would suggest this cam to anyone.
