CC306 Cam in a 406 SB? or Help me choose a cam, again

Plans changed again. I am selling the SuperRam so I can put the modded LT1 intake from John Millican on instead. The LT1 guys are always talking about the CC305 and CC306 cams. My heads (AFR 190s) are set up to take up to .650 lift. I will be using 1.52:1 Roller rockers. I have a forged crank, so revving up to 6500 shouldnt be a problem. Do you see any problems with using the cc306 cam? I did a search over at cz28.com, and found out the specs for the Cc306 cam:

CompCams CC-306:
230/244
.510/.540
112ls
2500-6500 RPM

Someone also posted that the following grind would be better:

CompCams XE grind:
236/242
.521/.540
112ls
2500-6000 RPM

Any input here? Thanks guys.

what everyone calls the CC306 is actually a 290hr-12 grind. But, the specs are right. Its really intended for NOS or SC combinations (bc of the long exhaust duration) or some really crappy exhaust head flow. Unless the cost is out of the question, call cammotion and get them to spec you one for your combination. You can even find some decient cammotion grinds on e-bay that were ordered but never purchased.

They also tend to badmouth the XE 236/242 cam on the lt1 forum of z28.com. I imagine there is some other issues involved with the problems that they say have been experienced.

What rear end gear and trans u going run?

the 236-242 cam is a little better than the 306. I would really find something that will have very close to .600 lift intake. The 400 really likes lots of intake lift. Find something with the fastest opening rates and the largest lift you can. Build midrange that the 400 excells at. The cammotion I got has about the same duration as the XE you quoted but has 600 lift on 1.6 rockers. IT is ground on a 109lsa.

I would go no tighter than a 110 if you expect it to go closed loop.

A guy in our local club here has the 236-242 cam in an LT1 and it sounds wicked sweet.

He dynoed 404 hp at like 6400 and 350 TQ. For some reason he can't get his torque numbers over 350, but he is running the 4" mufflex system and a huge spintech muffler.

What other mods does he have to make that power?

I will be running a beefed up 700-R4 and most likely a F*rd 9". What should I expect to pay for a custom cammotion cam?

Hydrollers are about 295. Comps are about 250. 700-r4s have a real big drop on 1st to 2nd gear. I would keep duration in the 222-225 range for intake. I would also tend to go with about a 3.70 rearend gear. No lower and not higher than a 3.42.
