If you really want to you can just remove the bulb in the dash. But the better question if to find out if there is any codes stored in the computer.

My car had a piece of cardboard covered in black electrical tape at the front of the shaft( to keep the light from burning it I guess). I wouldn't do this, your car is telling you something you need to know. There are tech articles on this site on how to find out why it's on. Once you have fixed the problem all you need to do to turn the light off is to disconect the battery neg. terminal for 15 min. and reconnect it. What code did you get and what did you do to fix it? Mine goes on sometimes for the MAF and it's because the electrical connector is beat up. All I have to do is disconect the MAF and reconect it, and then clear the code. Your car will run better if all it's sensors are working.
