Hmmmm free 305 block, with my free 400 crank???? Help

Ok guys I got a 305 block for free, I know why throw money into it, because all the work is basically free... I got a 400crank I took from work... The crank is brand new. I was wondering can i throw that in the 305 with the stock rods and new pistons, I know i have to have it clearenced and junk, but would it work, if not then not a big deal... I know goto a 350... blah blah blah,

you would end up with a 334 strocker.. someone here has one ..
Tho, ya, why ? when you could get a 383, or 406 out of that crank

Id invest in a 383 or 406.. even if the 305 block is free..

A crank you took from work - you're asking us to help you put stolen goods in your car?

Rod lenth depends on which pistons you use.

i definitely wouldnt steal a crank. poor poor descision. take it back and be a man. when i first started out as a bagger at jewel i was making bare minimum and doing the most work. did i steal apples and oranges...NO! thats no excuse. just for a heads up the work wont be free. i doubt you can do any clearancing or boring to a block. personally i would:

1. take the crank back and apologize
2. shop around for a decent 350 at a low price
3. build it up from there
4. emissions might be a standstill for you as far as what you are looking for. i would build a mild 350. that should be plenty.

well i guess i understand now. you know i have always wanted an 89 formula but i dont want to pay for it. i think i will go garage shopping and see what i can dig up for free(i.e. 5 finger discount). dont like that idea hmmm. what can i do then?

i have a question about your free 305 block. is it good condition. i wouldnt waste my time especially if its been around the block a few times. 350s from junkyards arent expensive. take the money you saved on buying a crank and go get a 350 or something. then build up from there. any plans as what you want this motor to do?

strange.. i worked at a auto parts store, never stole anything and was greatful for the discount i already got as a employee.....

then again, i worked at a real autoparts store, not pepboys

come to think of it, when i worked at advance, i never stole anything either.

hmm, id say it would be diffrent in orlando, Fl, but youknow, i personally know the "manager" or whatever hes called thats incharge of basicly the entire southeast..... i should ask him if hes aware of this policy.... lol.

anyhooooo..... the crank wont fit without being machined. and you'll need the right pistons too.

if you shopped around for a deal on a 400 block and sold the 305 (even as scrap) you could pull enough together to build a actual 400.

oh and in the future, its never wise to tell anyone (nevermind a public msg board) that you stole somthing.
