1990 L98 Iroc

Can anybody tell me the specs of this engine? Is it the same in the TPI Corvette?

How does this motor stand up to its younger siblings the LT1 and LS1?

The car came with dynomax dual converters, flowmaster catback, underdrive crank pulley, ported plenum, TB bypass, K&N filters, an AFPR, Accel dist. and rotor cap, GM perfromance wires with Bosch platinum +4 plugs. Do these equate to any signifficant gain on these cars?

What you listed won't be much of a performance gain. Most of it will just freshen up the 14 year old engine. LT1, it's in the air, depends on driver, gearing, weather, traction, etc. LS1, forget about it. Sorry but a mild L98 has no chance touching an LS1. :Jealous:

For specs: It's not the same as the 'Vette. The Corvette got aluminum heads. F-Body HP is 245 and TQ is 345 They run out of breath at around 4500-4800. Can push a third gen (with proper gearing) to the upper 140's. Mid 14 second cars stock. That's about all I can think of.

The catback, dynomax converters, ported plenum, and underdrive pulley will see you some gains. Nothing much tho. LT1 is a mildly superior engine stock for stock, and the LS1 is a far superior engine stock for stock. Once modding is done tho, everything is fair game - the L98 is a SBC 350, and can be modded to make gobs of power.

So what was the difference between the L98 Fbody and the L98 Vette? Specs? HP? TQ? Engine opt?
Perfomance specs??

The mods on this car a hardly any gain? I'm told the catback is good for 10-12 and the ported plenum and UD pulley would be another 10. Would that bump power up to 260-270?

These cars are not much of a match for the newer fbodies?

corvette the latter ones had the aluminum heads, thats the biggest difference at least i would think it is.

vette's always seem to have more hp and tq than the f-body 350 tpi wise. just alittle but vettes are lighter i believe so they were even faster.

yes a nice catback, ported plenum, pulley should add like 25 crank hp and when it gets to the back end maybe like 15. thats my guess, every little mod counts though.

stock 350 tpi map thirdgens can give stock lt1 auto verses auto trannies a pretty good run, but still will lose up top in the 1/4 mile.

ls1's stock for stock we get creamed believe me i have raced them at the track i will get like maybe a half a car lead at the beginning (bad driver / spinning the tires for the ls1 guy) and then bam they start slidding by even before the 1/8 its already over.

Hmm, I thought I read that they stared using aluminum heads on the L98 fbodies in 1990-92?

I thought the L98s in the fodies in 1990-91 had the same specs as the TPI Corvettes?

I was always under the impression that the difference between the Firebird/Camaro L98 and the Corvette L/98 was that the Corvette got the aluminum heads, a better cam and some software tweaks in the computer.

There are differences, Im pretty sure its mainly a cam/head combo on the corvette it different.

Remember "Corvette" is the flagship car for Chevrolet, and it costs way more. There is no way they could build a car that is just as fast for a lot less money!!! So they make them close, but the vette will always be a little better.

Anybody know the performance specs of The highest rated Fbody and the Corvette?

The mods on my car are hardly any gain? I'm told the catback with dynomax cats is good for 10-12 and the ported plenum and UD pulley would be worth another 10. Wouldnt that bump power up to 260-270?

Go run it on the chassis dyno and find out.

All the rest of this guessing and "highest rated F-body" and "10 HP for this, 5 HP for that" is nothing but monkey-spank and drivel, and accomplishes nothing. Your car is what it is, talking about it won't alter it, go find out what it is.
