Static Electricity
Don't know if this is the right message board for this post, but here goes. I have an 85 IROC, no power anything. I do however, have an UNGO Box TL 4000 alarm installed under the drivers seat and an alpine amplifier under the passenger seat. Lately, when I get out of my car and shut the door I get a shock. I really don't know where to start as far as looking for a problem. Or is there a problem? I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Clewis

Dry winter weather is the culprit. I could explain the hole static electricity thing but I do have the time to type and you do have the time to read it. In laymens terms dry air= more static, humid air = less.

Clewis,
That's relatively normal. My wife's new Astro zaps her every time she gets out of it. I think the tire rubber compound is softer and more prone to static generation. The old one never did that.
I think its pretty funny, myself. I tell her that since she can't give me static when I'm not around her van is returning the favor in my place.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I had a feeling that it had something to do with our winter weather. However, since I've also had a problem with fuses blowing whenever I use my cigarette lighter port to play my portable CD player, I thought that I might have a short somewhere.

The cigarette lighters go bad all the time. I had to take mine all the way out to make it staop blowing fuses.
