putting a 350 van motor into a 91 z28
ok here goes and if your not answering these questions then please go somewhere else
My car:
91 Z28 convertible 305
My stepdad is giving me a 95 350 out of a van (not roller) but im putting the engine in my stepdads buddies shop for him to give it around atleast 300 horses at the wheel and im going to slowly pay him as i can and as he fixes it (my car runs strong and its only got 75,000miles) (i would like to add a supercharger 2 the 350)
1.will my intake and TPI fit on it?
2.will i have to change computers?
3.change injectors?
4.any sensors?
5.can i make it roller?
6.am i better off with my 305 heads or after market?
7.what would putting my 305 heads and cam into the 350 do?
8.will i need to change fuel pumps
9.will my TPI be good enough for 300 rear wheel horses or
do i need to do stuff to my TPI?
10.what should i do to my TPI?
11.what parts combo shuold i go with(heads,cam,lifters,pistons?
12.forged pistons right?
13.comment on anything i missed please that you think will be
useful to me
Thank u everyone and please dont act like little sissy girl 12 year olds becuase its all

1. Yes
2. No, but you will probably need a new chip for the one you have
3. Yes, although you can sort of limp by with the ones you have
4. Yes, the knock sensor
5. Maybe; we've already discussed that, if you can wade through the other moron's invective to find posts with real info in them
6. Aftermarket. Your 305 heads are beter than the truck heads but will cause other problems. See #5
7. See #5; will make it spark knock merciessly, which will make the ECM pull timing out, which will make the motor run sluggish and lazy
8. No
9. No. Yes.
10. Put some other induction system on it. Carb of course would do it; or one of the alternative FI systems such as Stealth Ram, MiniRam, etc.
11. Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go? $1500 fast? $5000 fast?
12. Preferred but not essential; see #11.
13. Budget; the rest of the car, such as gears, torque converter, etc.; suspension, so you don't wheel hop and rip the rear end out of the car, or sit and smoke the tires; and the list goes on.
There's alot more to making a car fast than the engine. THe very first thing you should do if it isn'e already done is get a set of good quality headers ([b[NOT[/b] the cheapest thing that says it will fit).

on #5, yes, it has all the provisions for a stock roller lifter setup, you will need all the parts though, I know you can get a complete kit from comp with everything

Ok now maybe we can get some stuff cleard up before this gets out of hand. Hopefully this post wont get out of hand.
Does this 350 need a rebuild?
The answers above apply. Crane and a couple others make computer friendly non roller cams that make good power. I dont know which ones because emmisions and computer control arent a factor for me. Ive used small chamber heads on many budget built 350's they dident ping with premium fuel and using a real scan tool gave no indication of timing being pulled out or anything funny. After market heads will outflow stock components and net you more hp and with the right cc head theres no chance of detonation on lower octaine fuel. Good heads are great if you can afford them. Ive delt with TBI mostly as far as computer control so induction, injectors and tuning needs to be answered by one of the helpfull TPI guys around here. The rest is common stuff that helps any engine, mentioned exhuast upgrades, suspension and differential upgrades. A posi and a real gearset will work wonders on any car.

i was really trying to keep the tpi so what should i do to have 300 rear wheel and keep my tpi
well im not trying to spend 5000 but like i said my car only has 75,000 miles so the rebuilt 350 will come in time im putting it in a shop and lettign them take there time my stepdad knows them so im going to slowly pay them like a payment plan lol
and as far as gears and stuff im slowly working on that i hate the 2.73's i got now and the fact that i dont have posi
all ive done so far is a major tuneup put flowmaster on it and cut the cat
thanks for all the input so far

The way to get 300 RW HP put of TPI is to take it of and put something else on there. Be realistic. It's mighty tough to get 300 RW HP out of TPI. If that's really important to you, be prepared to spend ALOT of money on getting there. A few, very few, people have gotten to that point; usually it took them a couple of thousand dollars of head work, years of PROM tuning experience, several cam swaps to get just the right one, etc. etc.
A stock 350 TPI puts about 195-200 HP to the rear wheels, which is about 230-240 at the crank. To get to 300 RW HP, you somehow have to get about 360-375 HP at the crank. Think about that for a minute.... a 50-60% increase in power output.
As I said, there's alot more to making a car fast, than just hopping up the engine. Gears are one of the first things you have to do. Gutting the cat is essentially worthless, compared to a new high-flowing one such as a Catco or Car Sound or something, for less then $100. The way to make a car go fast often involves lots of stuff you can't see, won't make your friends oooh and aaah when you pop the hood.

if your going to have a "payment plan" i would definetly suggest putting a good aftermarket induction system, like the miniram or the stealth ram and run it off of the holley commander or the accel DFI systems. much more expensive, yes, but well worth it and the tunablity is awesome. take your time. do things right. you only havve 75,000miles on the car. i would suggest you do gears, and higher stall converter. then when you have like 125,000 (or whatever) then have your motor ready to drop in. (i think you will be able to afford all of the bells and whistles you want for the new motor in 50,000miles)
