TPI with Dual Fans, but only one working???
Under the hood of my 88 GTA i have the dual electric radiator fan set up.I noticed when its time for the fans to kick on,only the fan closest to the driver side has been kicking on.The second fan hasnt been kicking on.I tested the second fan by touching the wires to the battery and i know the second fan is not broke. Now my question is,shouldnt both fans be kicking on at the same time,or does the second one only kick on if the car gets so hot???

The second one will come on when the car reaches a certain temp. I cant recall the exact temp, but Dave Y is in the ballpark.
One fan is controlled by the ECM and the other buy a Fan Temp Switch. Also, when the AC is in use, and the line pressure rises, the computer will energize the second fan.
Sorry I don't have exact number's, but I can get them from the service manual if you want.

There is a write up on this in the tech section. it says when each fan is suppose to turn on. Also, if you feel one fan may be burnt out, try switching the plugs on them and see if the other fan works

That's not a bad idea at all. It's pretty much agreed that even the first fan doesn't come on quite soon enough. Make them both come on at 180-190, and you should be set. It's a cheap trick that will help keep the engine cooler longer
