Just put on Headers. SES light came on. Help.

I have an 86 transam with a 350 and bunch of extras. I just put on hooker shorties without AIR. The check engine light came on after i gunned it, but turned off when i restarted the car and came on again a little while after.

What did the the headers do? Should i adjust my Fuel regulator?

I haven't checked the code out yet, but any prelim guesses. Thanks

are you using a new o2 sensor? is it fully grounded? Is there any other problems with the performance of the car? do you know what code it is? the instructions on how to get the code are in the tech files i think. but it could be a ton of things, we just need to narrow it down a bit. that isnt the stock engine is it?

I can't check the code until friday.

It's not the stock engine.

and the o2 sensor has only 1000 miles on it because i changed it about a month ago.

would too low/high fuel pressure cause a the light to come on. i'm thinking that it might be that.

did you Fiddle with the AIR pump or the Diverter Valve, ? If those connections report something amiss then you will throw a code.

Well, the headers don't have the AIR system. Does that mean it will throw a code everytime now. I thought that when people took it off there were no codes thrown.

well, Its My understanding that If You remove the Plugs from the Diverter valve, It will Throw a code, I could easily be wrong However, But I seem to remmeber having the same problem, if You wanna call it that, On mine.

better let someone else chime in with this, as Im Not 100% sure.

You grounded out your O2 sensor when the wire burned and now it's fubared. You need to replace it. Get a Bosch for $20 at any parts store.

The diverter valve broke, so I took it out. That instantaneously dropped a "CHECK ENGINE". Just a thought.

Where is the diverter valve? Or what is it connected to and from?

The diverter valve is on the pass side of the engine and has the little black "box" which is really just a cover for the wire harnesses. It is mounted on the air pump via a short black pipe that bolts to the air pump with 2 10mm head bolts. It also has at least three hoses hooking up to it, and one wraps around the back of the engine to deliver air to the drivers side air tubes. I took all that stuff off and now it's almost fun to change spark plugs.
