screw in studs installation ?'s

Is installing screw in studs as simple as removing the press fit studs, and tapping the holes for the screw-in studs?

Is it that easy, or should I pay the money to have a machine shop do it.

Thanks guys,
Matt

Hopefully this still works.

If so, thank Vader. He posted that a while ago.

You need Adobe Acrobat to read it.

Thanks Vader

That's a very informative article, thanks for posting it up AJ. At least I know I can do it, and I can put that $80 labor towards something else.

They should stick that article in the tech section on the main page, very good info...

I guess if you trust your machining abilities you could do it but I'd rather pay a shop $60 to do it for me

it's not quite that easy if you're using a preformance stud instead of a repair type stud. you need to machine .4 off the stud boss. there are several DIY cutters for that. lot of people report great results using them. i have a couple or had a couple that were worthless. i'll still with a vertical mill.

Ede, does that hold true with vader's method too? He said something about using a different type of stud with a round base and didn't mention anything about making the holes deeper.

Thanks for all your help

what he posted works for a repair stud for when a pull out studs pulls out. a regular or preformance type stud, with a hex on it, will need to have .4 milled off the boss. the holes don't have to be made deeper.

oops, I guess I misunderstood what you said about the milling

I'll have to do some more research then on if that repair type stud will be strong enough for me.

Thanks again guys
