Just finished in the swap listed in my signature. Went to crank the engine for the first time, heard a click, then nothing. After the one click, all electrical in the car is dead. I figure i somehow blew a fusible link or something, anyone have any ideas where to start looking? Or something else that could cause this?

Try the fusible link that is in line with the wire that goes from the battery to the starter directly.

 

CFabe,

Battery connections, starter connections, engine ground connection, all the standard stuff first.

The fresh paint on the new engine might be causing a grounding problem.

Beyond that, the positive and ground nodes on the body near the battery, then fusible links.

Tried jumping the car?

I had the same problem when I completed my engine swap. My problm was the ground to the block was not making good connection as stated in vaders reply.

 

The engine is far from painted (gonna run it as i pulled it and then rebuild later this summer), but I will check the engine/chassis ground strap, hadnt thought of that. Didnt try jumping it, but I'm sure the battery was good, i had just charged it. Also, voltmeter in the car was reading about 13 before the start attempt. Going to check conenctions and fusible links now, I'll post agian when i find something.

Problem turned out to be that we forgot to tighten the connections on the starter. Overlooked the obvious. Thanks for the help!
