I'm getting one installed in my 88 TA right now. Desktop Dyno says 445HP at 5500rpm and 466lb ft of torque at 4000rpm. Matter of fact it doesn't come below 400lb ft until 6000rpm. Of course it cost me $3500 but I think it'll be worth it!

I was unwilling to settle for as little of a motor as that. So I put in the whole thing, a 400. So far (130,000 miles or so) I like it, except that I tear up lots of stuff.

I'm building mine right now. Desktop Dyno doesn't have provisions for a Super Ram setup so these numbers are for a stock TPI setup. 488 ft/lbs. torque at 2500 RPM's and 405 hp at 5000 RPM's. I'm guessing with the Super Ram those numbers will each jump atleast by 25 ??

I've got one until I get around to getting the 400 built.
Just a comment, I find Desktop Dyno to be wildly optimistic at times.

I have a 383 in mine. I've been driving it for a year now and it still makes me smile and say "this car is going to get me in trouble"!
I can't wait to go to work tomm. just so I can drive it.
Check it out at my site.

don't go by desktop dyno, you can draw cards and get a closer number. I love my 383, it pulls like a mother down low but my heads suck so I run out of umph around 3k and it gets worse from there. I run out in front of low 12 cars before I run out of air so it should stand up and go when I get the money for AFR's and get my superram repaired.

a 3838 huh?
i wouldnt mind having something that size in my car.. would haul in a major way.. but yes, he was simply saying his heads dont flow an optimum amount of air, or, enough for his engine when its running that fast... yes, 383's make great low end power, and easily supply power up to 5500.. this is a very very general comment, it all depends how you build it. 383's are known for their low end power(bc of increased stroke), but that doesnt mean they crap out on the top side

Yep, got one here!
Pulls strong to about 6K rpm according to stock tach(not sure how accurate the stock tach is though).
Gobs of torque (actually to much -did I just say that?!?!?- as I can't launch at full throttle even at the track). Need to get a Spohn adjustable torque arm and some drag radials.
I've ran a best of 13.2 at 105.42 with a fubar'd tranny and a total of 90 knock counts (about 15 deg of timing being pulled out) on the stock MAF chip. I've finally got those 2 bugs ironed out, but haven't been able to go back to the track since (stupid winter weather
).
If you go with a 383 and a good set of heads, use a bigger cam than what I did (ZZ4). More cubes make that cam feel almost like a stocker, I'm ready to change it out and the engine has been in the car since last May.
Car runs away from stock LS1s like they are sitting still. Loads of fun and lots of trouble
.
