timing chains

hey i was looking at parts to put in my 2.8 v6 and in jegs there is a cloyes "preminum timing sets" for $23 or a "true double roller" set for $93. will the second one really give me 10 extra hp and is is worth all the money. also are the sway bars worth the $250. i won't be bringing the car to the track but if there is a vast improvment in handling I will get them. one last thing for daily driving do i want mid and upper range hp or low and mid range hp.Thanks Eric

You want low RPM torque

I doubt you will notice any hp increase between two new timing chains. You will only notice an increase going from an old, worn chain, to a new one.

Don't invest in sway bars unless you're really into handling... Go for subframe connectors instead. You will feel those during normal driving, not even when you're cutting corners, and they will stiffen these unibodies immensely.

For daily driving, you want low and mid range power. You only see the top end if you're romping on it constantly.

The Cloyes set is likely a silent chain with steel crank sprocket and iron cam sprocket. With proper installation and lubrication it should last about elevnty-gazillion miles, and is stronger than a double row roller setup (RC35-2), but it is also heavier.

The advantage to the double row roller is lighter weight for faster acceleration, at the sacrifice of a bit of tensile strength.

good chance the 93 dollar set has 3 key ways so you can change cam timing, which might get you some more HP

something i learned with the 3 key ways on the crank gear, if your like me and need glasses to read. use them. i put a gear on and meant to use the rounded key way and used the pointed one and then used the wrong dot to go with the key. piston was down when it should of been up.

i'd say a true roller and the adjustable crank gear are a bit over kill for a stock engine

i tihnk i'd look for something a step up from autozone, but i wouldn't run the high dollar roller chain either. any chain for a roller cam is going to be more than a flat cam chain gear set from what i've seen.

Cloyes is a good brand. I bet even Pep Boys sells a Cloyes chain if you ask them.

Gm parts direct also sells replacment ones that are better than autozone brand for about 27 bucks. You are looking at between 15 and 50 bucks for a stock style timing chain replacement.
