Help me figure this out.
Posted this on the TPI board but not getting much help over there. Just out of curiuosity....What would cause you're car never to start on the first try after it sits for awhile. I can set there and crank and crank, probably till the battery dies,or just crank it for 3 seconds and it won't start. But on the second try, it will fire right up no problem. I also tried turning the key on and off a bunch of times trying to build up fuel pressure before starting it, but that had no effect.

IIRC the pump only primes in the beginning and doesn't deliver more fuel until it fires. With a second attempt at starting you're getting another shot of fuel. I would agree with ede.

Well what would cause a fuel pressure delivery problem?? The only thing i can see is maybe a clogged fuel filter or the intank fuel pump. But the fuel pump is a brand new AC Delco with maybe 1,500 miles on it and same with the fuel filter.

I am curious about this too. My girlfriends car does the exact same thing and its brand new and has been taken to the dealership repeatedly with no resolve. You can hear the fuel pump prime but still nothing and its always done it from the beginning. The dealership even tested every single system with no problems found.

what is the fuel pressure with the car not running? Whats the pressure reading when you turn the key to the run position?

Not really sure, i have a fuel pressure gauge to check it, but the car is burried in snow right now. What's the norm for it to read when the car is off? Should it still be holding at least 35 lbs?

it should hold pressure unless you have a leaking injector(s), pressure regulator diaphram, etc...
