What am I to expect when?

Ok, guys, im almost done putting my engine back together after a cam swap/headers... alls I got left is the throttle body, plug wires and rocker arms....the car has been sitting in my garage since may....Ive had the fuel line disconnected the power steering disconnected and just about everything else.......When its all said and done and Im ready to turn the key what am I to expect when I do? a bunch of smoke, sputtering and junk?

Heres what Im going to do before I attempt to crank it, Im going to change the oil and filter and put in some cheap oil (ill change it back to syn when its running for a few miles) should I put some water/antifreeze in the intake?

give me some pointers on what to do before and what to expect....im getting nerveous!!....LOL

the motor ran fine before and didnt have any internal problems but Ive now gone inside it....oh no!

change the oil, fresh set of spark plugs. top the fluids off.. get it timed as close as you can before you crank it.

Then let it fly.. fire it up.. it'll probably buck for a few seconds pick up the rest of the cylinders then be fine.. run it ofr aobut 5 minutes.. check it over..

fire it back up give it a quicky timing check if possible... let it run another 5 kill it.. check it over.

third 5.. at the end of it set the base timing at idle and you'l be fine... she'll be ok

I assume you used pre-lube on everything. If yes do the above.

But before you turn the key for the first time, make sure that nothing is touching the headers/exhaust manifold and all cables and wires are properly hooked up and out of the way of any moving parts.

Also, I have no idea what you are saying about water/antifreeze in the intake,,, I have never heard of this.

all the sensors have been taken off too....so they will not be at the correct settings.....the fuel pressure regulator have been taken off when I took the fuel rails apart so its gonna be off too cause its adjustable...do I set timing first then set the IAC and TPS? whats the order?

anymore pointers?

The gas should be fine. It may not run as good as fresh gas but it'll still run. You could fill it up with premium to somewhat balance out the loss of octane from your old gas sitting.

might want to have a timing light connected and a distributor wrench ready. far as being prepared i keep a fire extingusher in the garage because you never know what might really happen reguardless of what you think might happen. my sons a firefighter and he keeps telling all sorts of little fire prevention ideas.

You could turn the ignition on first to make sure you don't have any fuel leaks and get your fuel pressure in the ball park. Definetly have a timing light hooked up and the ditributor just snug enough to move by hand but not vibrate around. Does anyone make a distibutor wrench that fits back there? The few I have are too long on the horizontal part of them. Once you have done the above I would just leave it running long enough for the thermostat to open and top off the coolant, put the cap back on, let it idle for a few more minutes, then shut it off and check for leaks.

my fuel rails are empty and so are my fuel lines......I guess there no way to prime the lines or anything.....will just turning the key to the on position get the fuel back up to pressure? to where I can check it on my fuel rail? or will turning the motor over fill the lines back up?

You may want to cycle the key on and off a few times (slowly, turn key on and wait for fuel pump to stop, then turn off and repeat).
